When I began working at the young age of sixteen, I was excited to be independent and earn my own money.
I worked long, unsociable hours at the weekends whilst at school during the week. Looking back on it, I don’t know how I did it!
But I knew that working these hours was temporary as I would be attending university to pursue my love of dance and gain a degree.
However, a year into my course I realised I was not for me, so I packed my bags and came home.
At this point I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I felt as though I had not only let myself down for dropping out of university but also my family. I knew I had to get a full-time job, but doing what?
One rainy afternoon I was sat on my bed watching a film about a wedding planner. I sat there and realised I could not stop smiling at the film.
I reminisced on my waitressing job, thinking about how rewarding and incredible it was to be apart of someone’s big day. I knew I did not want to go back to being a waitress, it was then I made a vow to myself… I will work hard to one day have my own business as a wedding planner.
That I would be successful. I would no longer have to worry about money. And most importantly, I would help people have the best day of their lives.
And that’s exactly what I did!
